Projects: 1980 CWC G10 'Fatboy'

The 1980 CWC G10 was the first quartz watch issued by UK armed forces, and replaced the mechanical W10 during the same year. The deep case was necessary to accommodate the ETA 536.121 quartz movement, leading to the 'Fatboy' nickname. The Fatboy G10s were issued from 1980-82, with around xxxx issued in 1980. Unlike the later Fatboy issues they do not have a service code on the case back. The 1980 and 81 watches also have the old-style CWC logo with no oval, which was adopted from 1982 onwards.

This example was is relatively good cosmetic condition, but the case parts were stripped and ultrasonically cleaned. The movement was in poor condition and after being stripped and inspected was throughly cleaned through two cycles in the L&R cleaning machine. It came out clean buy the plate and other parts retained staining from previous battery acid contamination. The movement went together without any further problems and the completed watch was regulated to well within original specification. The watch was finished off with a new crystal and new gaskets, including the crown.
