Projects: 1995 0555 'Royal Marines' CWC G10

This 1995 'Royal Marines' issue G10 was sent to us for diagnosis and repair as it was 'running slow'. As is often the case, it was intermittently stopping and starting, causing it to lose time, rather than actually running slow.

When it was opened up and inspected, damage from water ingress was obvious, especially on the dial, but also some evidence of corrosion on the movement.

The movement was stripped and cleaned and de-rusted and came up well. Mostly the corrosion was confined to the keyless works, but rust particles had accumulated around the rotor (which is magnetic) and this was the likely cause of the poor running. The movement was then serviced and was ready to refit into the watch

The dial was in a sorry state, with serious damage to the paint and lume. This could not be easily restored but it was possible to improve it. The corrosion was stabilised with matte binder, loose paint was removed and touched in. The lume plots were unstable and loose lume material was migrating across the dial, so the lume plots were stabilised and the dial cleaned up to remove loose particles of luminous material. The hours hand had corrosion on the back and a hole in the lume. This was cleaned up and the hole repaired.

Finally the gaskets were all replaced and greased and a new crystal and matte tension ring fitted, and the watch is now useable again.
