The Hamilton GS Tropicalized was a civilian development from the earlier Hamilton 6B RAF issue, and was offered on the retail market. However, it was also  - allegedly - issued to UK Foreign Office staff working from overseas embassies, and was definitely issued to colonial forces including the Abu Dhabi Defence Force and Kenyan Army.

The watch was produced with several minor variations, including some of the colonial issued examples having a pheon and some having additional 24hr markers on the dial, and either with the cal S75S movement or the cal 684 - both based on the ETA 2390.

The majority of civilian issue GS watches appear to have the cal S75S movement with hacking seconds. This was a development of the earlier cal 75 fitted to the first version of the RAF issue 6B, which did not have hacking seconds. The later H-67 version of the 6B was upgraded to the Cal S75S.

As the H-67 dates from 1967-71, the GS, sharing the same movement can also be dated to this period.

AS with the RAF 6B watch, the GS has a stainless steel case and back, with an iron anti-magnetic plate under the dial and a soft iron antimagnetic dust cover inside the case back, to provide protection for the movement from magnetic fields.

This example is in very nice, clean original condition and recently serviced, as detailed in the condition report.

The watch is supplied on a vintage Bonklip bracelet, which was fitted to the watch when acquired.

The stainless steel case is in clean and original condition with general minor marks and small knocks from use. The dial and hands are in excellent condition. The crystal is unmarked. Please refer to the images to make your own judgement about the condition of the watch.

Mechanically the watch had a full stripdown, clean and service, including new mainspring, in November 2024. The case was ultrasonically cleaned. The original Hamilton cal. S75S movement (ETA 2390) movement was fully stripped, with all parts cleaned and rinsed mechanically and ultrasonically in waterless solutions and hot air dried. The movement was reassembled, lubricated and regulated. The mainspring was replaced during service.

Amplitude is 290+ degrees, beat error is 0.0ms and accuracy is within around +5 seconds per day (on the bench, this may differ when worn). The service was photo documented and images have been added to the listing, including an image of the watch on the timegrapher showing the readings. The watch adjusts correctly from the crown.

The watch is absolutely suitable for everyday use, but it is vintage watch so is not recommended for sports or use in extreme conditions. The watch has not been pressure tested so water resistance is not guaranteed. This watch is covered by our non-waterproof 6 month guarantee.
