All CWC divers from 1983 (the first quartz diver) through to 2005 used a combination of a metal dust cover and plastic spacer ring, both to protect the movement and to hold the movement/dial firmly in place once the back is screwed down.

The metal dust cover is fitted first, and presses down on the battery limiting plate to ensure the battery stays in position. Then the plastic spacer ring fits over the dust cover with the bottom edge sitting on the flange of the dust cover. Small projections on the top edge of the spacer ring ensure that as the case back is screwed down, the spacer ring is pushed down on the flange of the dust cover, and everything is tightly held in place.

The original spacer rings become brittle over time and often break at the cutout for the stem, which is a weak point, and sometimes a whole section will break off. As they are removed for battery changes they are also often lost or damaged, and can also be damaged if not refitted correctly.

As this system was discontinued in 2005, stocks of these parts have long since been exhausted and the part has been unobtainable. Sumac Watches has now had the part remanufactured and it is available now ONLY from Sumac Watches. Using an original part as the pattern, the part has made to the same dimensions as the original and is an exact fit, but the wall of the part has been slightly thickened to make it stronger and the material used will not become brittle with age. The colour is also a close match to the original.

These are supplied as a single part (i.e. one spacer ring only).
