Projects: Grana WWW 'Dirty Dozen'
As most military watch collectors know, the Grana is the rarest of the so-called 'Dirty Dozen'. We were lucky enough to have one of these sent to us for servicing and repair. The dial was damaged and was sent to the dial restorer Bill & Sons to be refinished, and an excellent job they did as well. In the meantime we stripped and cleaned the movement, serviced it including a new mainspring and regulated it for accuracy. Its a bit daunting having a watch this rare and valuable on the bench, but in truth there is nothing intrinsically unique about it - the cal KF320 is a fairly bog-standard movement and does not present any particular issues for servicing. The watch tuned out very well and with good performance and nice cosmetic appearance, and buying an example with damaged dial - even after the cost of dial restoration and servicing - was a very cost-effective way to acquire a lovely and much sought-after watch.
